Best Affordable VR Headset

VR Headset UK

VR headsets have grown in popularity over the last couple of years, and today there are a lot more options to choose from. This list is broken down by price range, so if you're looking to spend less than £100 you'll want to skip down a few sections. The smrt-life VR headset is the cheapest option at just under £100, but it's also the most limited since it doesn't allow for room-scale virtual reality or mixed reality content. For our top pick under £250 we recommend the Oculus Rift. The Rift is easily the best VR headset on the market, and with controllers that cost just £200 you'll be able to play video games and watch movies in full virtual reality.

The Oculus Go is one of the two Go headsets from Oculus, and while it's not as powerful as the Rift, it does have a much lower price tag. The other Go model comes with a headphone jack, but if one's not a huge priority for you we recommend the Rift over the Go.

The biggest potential downside to these cheaper headsets is their lower resolution. Since the display is just an inexpensive smartphone you can't expect the same quality of images or smooth frame rates as a dedicated gaming PC. Most of these headsets support Oculus Quest and SteamVR, so if you're interested in getting into VR there's plenty to do with these affordable options.

One of those other options on this list is the Xbox One controller. Microsoft offers a controller for the Xbox One that has the ability to support VR, and while it looks similar to many of the more expensive controllers out there, its price tag is much lower. It's also one of the most comfortable controllers we've used and works great with video games like Rec Room.

Virtual Reality is a fun and exciting new technology. It's the closest you'll get to stepping inside of your favorite video games. The best part about all of this is that virtual reality headsets are going to be less expensive in time than you might think. There are VR Headsets starting at just £50, and below you'll find a few of our favorites. With the addition of the new standalone headsets, there are now two different options for you to get your VR experience.

That's it! Those are our picks for the best VR headsets under £200. If you have a suggestion for a headset we didn't include, please let us know in the comments below! We'd also love to hear what kind of experiences you've had with each headset. Head back to our homepage for more news and reviews on everything gaming.

We've tried to include VR headsets that are as inexpensive as possible, and we've also included some of the best accessories for each headset. It's also worth noting that all of these headsets will work with a gaming computer rather than just a smartphone, which means you should be able to get a much better experience.

The second generation of the Oculus Rift is now available and brings with it some big improvements over the original model. You can now get a higher screen resolution for your headset and the device is much lighter.

Some people want to skip the cables and just go wireless with their VR headsets. The benefits are a longer range, quicker setup and lighter weight. There's no question that wireless is the way forward when it comes to virtual reality. Here are five of our favorite wireless headsets that cost less than £200.

You may be wondering what the difference between these two headsets is, and it mostly comes down to your preferences. Sony's PSVR is the cheaper option, but it's also closed off in a way that Oculus' headset isn't. There are also other options for VR out there like VIVE, but this list focuses on the most popular options.

If you have a PS4 and are interested in trying out a whole new dimension of gaming, you might want to consider picking up one of these headsets. There are a lot of console-specific headsets out there, but the PSVR integrates right into your console so that it's easy to start VR with your existing library.

The Oculus Rift is the only headset on this list that isn't a self-contained unit. You'll need to connect your PC or laptop to the headset if you don't have access to an external display, but this does make for an easier setup. Oculus Quest is Oculus' newest headset and it's a standalone unit, but it only works with the Oculus Rift storefront.

For the most part, the difference between a console and PC VR headset is how long it takes to get setup. The PSVR is smaller and more compact, but you have to connect it to your PS4 first. Then you'll need to hook up your controller to the PS4 if you don't already have one. You won't need a second USB port with the Oculus Rift, but then again you don't have to have a third console plugged into your TV.

We think of the VR headsets on this list as all-inclusive, which means that they're all going to work with all of the games available through SteamVR and Oculus stores. However, if you're looking to get into VR adventure games like Arizona Sunshine or Fallout 4 VR, you won't be able to use them with a console headset. Of course, you can get a headset made specifically for adventure games like the Vive or Windows Mixed Reality VR headsets.

If you already have a PS4, PlayStation VR is definitely the most convenient option. If you're on a PC and don't mind connecting your controllers to your computer, Oculus Rift is great for adventure games since it's compatible with SteamVR.

If neither of those options work best for your needs, you may want to consider other adventure game headsets like the VIVE or Windows Mixed Reality headsets.
